List of All Spider-Man Movies in Order: If you’re looking to dive into the Spider-Man movie series but are uncertain about their order or connections, here’s a concise breakdown:
There are a total of seven Spider-Man movies, categorized into three distinct groups. The first comprises the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, spanning from 2002 to 2007, featuring Tobey Maguire. The second group includes two Marc Webb-directed Amazing Spider-Man films from 2012 to 2014, with Andrew Garfield as the lead. This marks a complete reboot of the Spider-Man series, standing independently from the previous films.
The last two entries are directed by Jon Watts: Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home, starring Tom Holland. These movies are integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This represents the second reboot in the Spider-Man series and remains separate from the earlier renditions.
While Sony Pictures Entertainment holds the Spider-Man rights, the last two films are a result of a shared agreement, placing them within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of the Infinity Saga.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man appears in three additional films (for a total of five): Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Collectively, these seven movies have amassed an impressive $6 billion at the global box office. Notably, Spider-Man: Far from Home is the first film in the Spider-Man franchise to exceed $1 billion in worldwide earnings, making it Sony’s highest-grossing production to date.
Here is the list of all Spider-Man movies in order of release:
1. Spider-Man (2002)
Peter Parker is a nerdy high school student who gets bullied all the time. He also likes the girl next door Mary Jane but is too afraid to tell her. When Peter is bitten by a genetically engineered spider during a field trip, everything changes. Suddenly, his vision is better, his physique is improved and he can shoot a web from his wrist.
After he loses his uncle who told him that “with great power comes great responsibility”, Parker decides to use his new gifts to fight evil. Meanwhile, millionaire Norman Osborn tests an unstable strength enhancer on himself and becomes the evil Green Goblin. Naturally, the showdown between the two is inevitable, but Green Goblin has one advantage, he knows Spider-Man’s weakness.
2. Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Two years have passed since Peter Parker became Spider-Man and things aren’t very good. He can’t hold a regular job and relations with his closest people become estranged. All of this starts to affect his powers. Peter’s friend Harry, who now runs his father’s company Oscorp, is sponsoring a fusion project by nuclear scientist Otto Octavius. After a failed fusion experiment Dr. Octavius will become a supervillain with mechanical hands.
When Peter decides to quit being Spider-Man, Harry hires Octavius to bring Spider-Man to him in exchange for isotope tritium, so he can avenge his father’s death. When Harry finds out that his best friend Peter is Spider-Man, he decides to help him locate Octavius who holds Mary Jane as a hostage. Spider-Man must stop Octavius and Mary Jane will finally learn Peter’s secret.
3. Spider-Man 3 (2007)
In the third and final part of the trilogy, Spider-Man will face multiple enemies, including a dark version of himself. When a meteorite hits Central Park, an extraterrestrial symbiote will assimilate Spider-Man’s suit and bring his dark side up. His friend Harry will become New Goblin and the man who actually killed Peter’s uncle Ben will turn into Sandman. On top of that, the rival photographer from Peter’s work will become Venom and he will team up with Sandman against Spider-Man. Luckily for Spider-Man, his friend Harry will eventually switch sides and even the odds.
4. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
In this rebooted version of the Spider-Man franchise, Peter Parker finds his father’s documents and learns that he worked with Dr. Connors at Oscorp. When he sneaks into Oscorp, Peter is bitten by a genetically modified spider. Soon he will realize that he has developed special abilities.
Meanwhile, Dr. Connors, who is working on a regeneration serum based on lizard DNA, will use the serum on himself and that will turn him into a monster known as the Lizard. Now he wants to make everyone the same by releasing a chemical cloud from the Oscorp building. In order to protect the city, Spider-Man must confront and defeat the Lizard.
5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
When Oscorp engineer Max Dillon accidentally shocks himself and falls into a tank with electrical eels, he mutates into a living electrical generator. Meanwhile, Peter’s friend Harry is ill and he believes a sample of Spider-Man’s blood can heal him. When he asks Peter to help him find Spider-Man, Peter refuses because he is unsure of what effect the transfusion would have.
Harry will make a deal with Dillon, now known as Electro, to get him back into Oscorp which Harry lost control of. Inside he will find a special suit and venom from destroyed spiders. Injected venom will speed up the illness and transform him into Green Goblin, but the suit is capable of healing him.
Spider-Man needs to face Electro who can cause a blackout in the city, and Green Goblin who wants revenge for being refused transfusion.
6. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
The Main Villain: Vulture / Adrian Toomes (forced out of business by Stark; he created the suit out of Chitauri technology after the battle of New York.)
After helping Stark with an internal dispute (in Captain America: Civil War), Peter Parker returns to his high school life. What he actually wants to do is to focus on fighting crime. He starts to run into criminals with advanced weapons. After he ends up in a lake, Stark will save him because he has a tracker in Spider-Man’s suit.
Against his mentor’s commands, Peter continues to investigate a mysterious arms trafficker, who will turn out to be the father of the girl he likes. He also has his own suit.
7. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Peter Parker isn’t the only Spider-Man in New York. And, if you count multiverses, there are even more, including Spider-Ham, Penny Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider Noir, and Peter B. Parker. In this animated delight, Brooklyn teen Miles Morales teams up with all of these variants to help keep the universe intact and safe from the dreaded Kingpin. It doesn’t link up with any of the previous movies for anything more substantial than just gags, but it did beat the rest of the MCU at tackling the idea of multiverses.
8. Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
After Thanos is defeated, Peter Parker wants to take a break from being Spider-Man. He goes on a Europe trip with his school. Meanwhile, Nick Fury and Maria Hill are in Mexico investigating some unnatural storm when they encounter an Elemental creature.
When Elementals starts to attack all over the world, Peter Parker will find himself recruited by Nick Fury to help.
9. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Talk about full circle: The third chapter in Watts’ Spider-Man series sees Spidey pay a visit to Dr. Strange. (You know, the same Dr. Strange whose franchise was taken over by Sam Raimi, who launched the first Spider-Man movie on this list.) Parker asks the Sorcerer Supreme to change events to help protect his secret identity, but, Peter being who he is, all does not go according to plan, which opens the door for some of the other cinematic Parkers to come to help him out.
10. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
If just a handful of Spider-Mans (Spider-Men?) in No Way Home weren’t enough for you, Across the Spider-Verse promises loads of them. The film sends Miles Morales off into five different universes and makes him cross paths with tons of other heroes. At the head of it all is Spider-Man 2099, leader of the Spider Society (and voiced by Oscar Isaac), who doesn’t take a shine to Morales.
